What Will Be Your Legacy?

November 20, 2016

What will be your legacy? For most people, that's not an easy question to answer. Some will mention their children, while others will bring up an accolade or a job well done.

Unfortunately, most people only think about their legacy when their life is coming to an end. By then, it's usually too late to change the story.

Guess what? There's no special day that makes up your legacy. No, this amazing reminder that you changed the world is being made in every second of your existence. From the smallest acts of kindness to the greatest leaps forward, there's nothing that isn't included.

You might be reading this with a heavy heart. It's easy to look at your current life and feel hopeless. Honestly, we all have those thoughts from time to time. When we give in to them and let our lives slip away, that's really when we can feel lost. That's why I'm asking you to consider your legacy today.

If something in your life is not what you thought it would be, change it. Of course, sometimes it's just not that easy. When those situations consume us, don't give up. Make your legacy shine among even the darkest moments. Believe me, no one remembers the small failures. Instead, they remember someone who tried, who didn't give up in the face of adversity.

Addressing your legacy is easier than you might think. Take the time to map out the things you would like in your legacy. If something doesn't go according to what you'd planned, take a step back and turn it into an advantage. Not everything is doom and gloom. Consider there might be moments that turn out far better than you had hoped for. By being flexible with your dreams and goals for a successful legacy, you are open to changing it for the better.

Legacies are something we may never fully know or even understand. That's why it's important to shape it with every action you make. Need a little help steering that legacy? This newsletter is always full of great tips to help you.

My challenge for you this week:

  1. Make a list of the people you want to have a part in making their lives better.

  2. Make a list of local or worldwide issues you want to help improve.

  3. Write down the contributions (time, money, knowledge, skills) you will commit to the individuals and issues listed.

  4. Every week assess your action level to see if you our living out your dream of being a high impact person.

What will be your place in history?  Take the time today to think about this and use this week's challenge to make a difference in your legacy!
