Hard Decisions Aren't Hard

August 27, 2017

One thing that never ceases to amaze me is how people put so much effort into making their lives complicated. Most things in life are fairly simple if you just get out of your own way, be honest with yourself and others, quit making excuses, and get on with living.

One of the most common opening lines I hear from people is "I have a hard choice to make." It may be something to do with their family life, or even a career decision, but it seems to be that everyone is facing a hard decision.

"I have a hard decision to make."

That is a lie. Hard decisions are only hard because we make them that way.  We give ourselves excuses for making the wrong choice and doing what we know is the wrong thing. Hard decisions are only hard because we know what the right choice is but struggle between doing what is right and doing what we think will give us pleasure.

You're in a store shopping and see a wallet lying in the aisle. You pick it up and there is cold hard cash inside. What do you do? Do you take it, as is, to lost and found, drop it in your pocket, or extract a little finder's fee and then turn it in to lost and found?

Hard choice? No, it's not. You know what the right thing to do is, but the other options are tempting you because you see possible pleasure in them.

You say that decisions like this are hard?  That is BS. You're just reasoning your way to doing what you know isn't right and making excuses for doing the wrong thing.

Do you want to make a great leap on the path to making your life easier to live? Stop making excuses and do what you know is right. In the end, you will find a much happier, trouble-free and guilt-free way of living.

My challenge for you this week:

Use my system to help in your decision-making process!

  1. What is the decision you are struggling to make?

  2. Write down the decision options you have.

  3. What is the best option to advance your future-relationships, career, income, education, etc.?

  4. What are you avoiding by delaying the choice of making the best decision?

  5. Are the things you are avoiding worth moving past to get the outcome that making the best decision will provide?

  6. If the answer is 'yes' then, stop making excuses in shift into action!

When you follow this system, you will find that so many of life's choices are not that difficult. Make life easy do what is right!
