Don't Gamble. Take a Chance!

One of the worst things you can do in your life is to play it safe. People who play it safe never accomplish anything. As a matter of fact, it is impossible for you to truly play it safe. So, you might as well step up and take a few chances of your own choosing.

Don't believe what I'm saying? One of the most dangerous things you can do in this country is to take a shower. More than 1/3 of all the emergency room visits each year are the result of accidents that happen while showering. See, even when it comes to cleansing your body, there is no way to stay risk free. Of course, walking around smelling funky is not acceptable!

Now, I'm not saying you should gamble. Gambling is a losing game. When you gamble, you are trying to beat the odds. Here is a bit of news for you: In gambling, the odds always favor the House, and the House always comes out on top. However, taking chances is learning how to bend those odds in your favor.

If you take a chance on working hard for that next promotion, can I guarantee that you will get it? No! Guess what though, your odds of getting it will improve; but, if you don't try, you don't have a chance.

If you eat right, exercise regularly, and lay off cigarettes and alcoholic drinks, does that mean you will have a long healthy life? No! But, if you become ill, your body is better positioned to recover faster.

There are no guarantees in life except for this one: The surest way to fail is to never try. You have to give yourself a chance to have a chance.

People have a million excuses why they can't: I grew up in ghetto, my family was poor, and my personal favorite, the world isn't fair. I call BS on all of them!

The difference between the haves of this world and the have notsisn't where you come from, it's how hard you are willing to persistently work to get to where you want to go.

My posts are full of examples of people who seemingly "beat the odds". News flash, they didn't beat the odds, they changed them!

My challenge for you this week:

Defy the odds!

  1. Think for a moment about something that will require you to take a risk.

  2. Write it down.

  3. Go for it!

  4. Set a start date, and every 30 days assess your progress.

  5. Determine what behaviors you need to do more often to advance your goal and employ them!

Let's get going! It's time to bend the odds in your favor and win the game of life!
