There is an Old Italian saying that says "The perfect is the enemy of good enough." This may sound like a strange thought coming from a man who preaches that you should be doing the best you can at everything you do...but think about it for a minute: Have you ever known someone who achieved very little because they never felt like they were quite ready to start? They might have all the talent in the world but they always wanted everything to be perfect.
Newsflash! There is no such thing as perfection. It is an idea that doesn't exist in the physical world and a word that has no relationship to reality. We are not and never will be perfect in any way, shape, or form, and the conditions for you to pursue your dreams are never going to perfect either. So, get that thought out of your head.
I'm not saying that you shouldn't give your very best to everything you do. If you have something worth doing, it is worth doing very well and in an excellent manner; but, you can't let preparing stand in the way of doing.
Take a person who might dream of being a carpenter. They spend all their free time reading about woodworking and watching videos. They know all there is to know about every woodworking tool that has ever existed. You know what they are accomplishing? Nothing!
Knowledge is a wonderful thing. It's one of the few things that can never be taken away from you, but it does not replace action. This person might be able to explain every technique, know all the specs for all the tools but until they buy a saw and start cutting wood, they will never become a carpenter.
At some point, you have to say, "I know enough to try." At some point, you have to quit dreaming and start doing. Yes, educate yourself because it will improve your chances of success; but, until you put that education into action, it is a waste of time.
Reading articles on medicine won't cure your ills. Exercise videos won't keep you fit. It is only when you accept that your knowledge will never be complete and that your skills will never be perfected that you can really begin to become whatever your dream may be.
Watch and you learn to watch, do and you will become. This is the true perfection of life's journey, not striving for a perfection that can never be achieved. Achievement can only be found in the labor and the effort.
My challenge for you this week:
Take action and keep moving, faster, toward your desired achievement!
What have you prepared for, but not yet launched?
What reasons do you have for not launching that thing?
Set a date to launch it.
List the items, including the behaviors, needed to launch your thing.
Start doing them-daily, weekly, and monthly.
Don't let waiting for the perfect moment prevent you from experiencing the joys and rewards of true achievement. Take the challenge today!
