Do you ever feel like just ripping things up? I mean just cutting loose and taking your whole world apart.
If you do, that can be a good thing. It may sound a little crazy but "disruption" can be a very creative act. I'm not talking about senseless violence. That has never profited anyone in any way. I am talking about disruption with a purpose.
Think about this: Nothing, and I mean nothing, can ever be created without something else being disrupted. To create anything worthwhile, you have to disrupt something and transform it into something better.
When you have those feelings of annoyance, ask yourself what is at the root of your frustration. Then ask, what do I need to do in order to disrupt that source and transform my life.
It is not enough to say "I'm stuck in my job" or "I feel weak all the time." You have to keep asking, like a child does, the question "why?" until you run out of answers. You have to get right down to the root. If you don't, you will just find more frustration sprouting and growing in your life.
Why are you always tired? I don't get enough sleep.
Why? I like to stay up at night.
Why? That's when I watch television or play games.
Why? . . . . . . . . .
I guarantee that along the way you are going to face some scary decisions and even some scarier truths. You may find that some of the causes for your discontent are things you would really like to hold onto. Things like old friends or things that you would rather not face like your own ignorance or poor habits.
You have to be honest with yourself and you have to be committed to disrupting those things that are stealing the joy from your life and preventing you from reaching your full potential as a person.
If old friends are dragging you down, find new ones.
If you lack knowledge, study.
If you have bad habits, replace them with good ones.
But, you have got to disrupt those things that are disrupting you. Cut them out like cancer or your life will never get any better.
It takes courage. It takes strength. But, unless you are so far gone that you enjoy being frustrated, it is the only way you can make a real meaningful change in your life.
My challenge for you this week:
As you examine your life, make a list of "bad habits" or "negative thought patterns" that slow your progress toward success
For each bad habit or negative thought, write down ways you can disrupt them.
If disruptive ideas don't come to mind, seek the advice of others.
Make a one-month commitment to applying the new disruptive strategies.
Keep a record of how you transform. Your story may become a book or movie!
