Do You Seek Challenges?

Most of our weekly articles talk a lot about eliminating those things in your life that stand between you and success. This week's article is going to be a little different. Today, we are going to talk about those things that you need to add more of in your life.

In one word, "challenges."

Challenges are those things that make us stretch our capabilities, test ourselves, and grow to become better than we thought we could be.

Most people don't like challenges. Think about it for a minute, do you like playing games you're not good at? Do you enjoy hanging out with people who view the world differently than you do? Probably not. Why? Because they challenge you.

The people who succeed in this world, excel at what they do by learning how to overcome the challenges put before them. They relish the excitement that comes not from beating other people but from stretching their limits and besting themselves.

Do you believe that Donald Trump, with all his wealth and success, needed to run for the Presidency of the United States? No, he didn't; but, for him, it was the challenge of doing something people said couldn't be done. Regardless of whether or not you are a supporter of President Trump, it is his willingness to take on a major challenge that you must embrace.

Challenges can come in many different forms: physical, mental, emotional, psychological, and (perhaps the most trying of all) philosophical. If you want to lead a successful life, don't avoid challenging situations, seek them out.

If you're not good at math, then take a class and prove to yourself that you can master it.

If you don't know how to play chess, then learn the game.

If you can't walk across the room without getting winded, then dedicate yourself to training for and running a 5k race.

It has been said that winning is a habit. The only way to develop the habit of winning is by trying. Don't be shy, step up to the plate, and take a swing. If you don't connect, try again, and yet again until you do. The harder the task and the more challenging the undertaking, the greater your joy will be when you finally succeed.

My challenge for you this week:

Take on new challenges or face the ones that you have been avoiding.

  1. Write down the challenge will you take on this week?

  2. Write down one or two daily action items you will do to advance your progress toward winning at your challenge.

  3. Carry this list with you everywhere you go!

Now, it's time to go challenge yourself!
