Seize Every Moment
Many of you know I love music, all different genres. Music has a way of reaching something inside of us that we often don't even realize is there. I'm not talking about that BOOM, BOOM, BOOM stuff, but the type of music that really has something to say or a lesson to teach.
When you get a chance, I want you to get online and listen to a song that I truly feel illustrates what I am talking about when I say to bring your A-Game every day. It is called "Live Like You Were Dying" by a country artist named Tim McGraw.
The song is about a man still relatively young who finds out he is dying and is telling a friend how that news has changed his life. He talks about how he found time for all the things he wanted to do, but had never done up until this point in his life. Then he goes on to talk about how it changed how he viewed and treated all the special people in his life. The song carries a strong message if you really take the time to listen to its lyrics.
Death is a surety in life. Some might even say that dying is the most natural part of life and that none of us can ever be sure when the old gray shadow is going to fall across our path. It may not be with any advance notice, like the man in the song was lucky enough to have received.
Any one of us could be gone tomorrow. We could get hit by a drunk driver. We could get shot just because we walked into the wrong store at the wrong time. We could slip in the shower and hit our heads. The possibilities are endless. So, why don't we do as the man in the song suggests and live like we are dying? We should.
Another song I want you to listen to is called "Lose Yourself" by Eminem, the rapper. The song's opening is very thought-provoking. It goes as follows:
If you had
Or one opportunity
To seize everything you ever wanted
In one moment
Would you capture it
Or just let it slip?
There really isn't any excuse for not seizing every moment. In truth, every day that you're alive you are indeed dying and you need to live your life like you know it.
My challenge for you this week:
Take a few minutes to make a list of your answers to the following questions...
If you knew that this would be your last week on this planet, what would you do over the next 7 days?
If you knew you would never see your spouse, children, parents again, how would you treat them? What messages would you tell them?
What memories would you want people to hold of you after you were gone?
Based on your response to these questions, why don't you do those things? Why don't you visit those places? Why don't you speak those words?
Seize the Moment, because you never know when it may be your last!
