You Have Got to DIY!

There are so many little things that go into building a happy and successful life. If you have been reading these articles over the past few weeks, you have learned a few of those "little things" that, if you allow them to take hold in your life, will get you started on the road to making 2020 the year that you have always dreamed of.

Today, I am going to share a truth that you really need to understand or else all my other advice will be completely useless. Here it is: You have got to Do It Yourself (or popularly known as "DIY")!

Yes, D, I, and Y are three of the most important letters you can ever remember. The simple truth is that no one else--not your momma, daddy, brother, sister, or spouse--can do it for you. You may be asking what "it" is? Well, you name "it" and that is "it". Here's what I mean by that:

Do you want to be happy?

No one can make you happy but you. Oh, you can be around people who make it easier to stay in a better mental and emotional state but only you have the choice of what you do or don't do. You have the choice of how you react to things that happen or are said around you. You can decide what you will and will not tolerate. It's all on you and you have got to DIY!

Do you want to feel more fulfilled?

It's up to you to decide what is or isn't a worthwhile use of your time. What may give others a sense of accomplishment may leave you feeling flat, and vice versa. While you may love building models with kids, others may find joy in helping feed the poor, and some may be happy just sitting and beating the next level of the latest video game. When it comes time to decide where you are going to apply your efforts you have got to DIY!

Within general limits, there is no right or wrong way to have a good life. To you, success may mean having a big house or fancy car and to someone else, success may mean raising wonderful children or nurturing a great home garden. We are all individuals and I'm thankful for that--and you should be too!

Just think of how noisy the world would be if everyone needed to talk as much as I do. Seriously, God made each of us different, which is his way of seeing that everything gets done! We all possess our own unique talents.

Do YOU want 2020 to be YOUR best year ever? YOU must decide what needs to change. YOU need to decide how to change it.

My challenge for you this week:

Complete the following 5 step process!

  1. Ask yourself, "What have I been waiting for someone to do for me or give me?"

  2. Make a list of what those things are.

  3. Decide what action steps you will take to use the DIY principle to do and to get those things listed?

  4. Take the time right now to secretly apologize to yourself for burdening and expecting others to do things that you have the capacity to do.

  5. Now, begin putting your DIY action steps into action!

It's time to bring your A-Game alive!
